Roy Greenslade – the ultimate irony

February 16th, 2009

While I was writing my blogs on Friday’ about Roy Greenslade’s gaffe over his libel of Lord Rothermere, Greenslade was making a speech to an august media conference, telling them that newspapers did not need sub-editors any more. He said:

“I write my blog every day, I don’t need a sub to get in the way,”

It all goes to show that the pressures on journalists these days are so great that they don’t have time for reporting any more. And they don’t even have time to read again what they have written themselves.

Greenslade has written several blogs in the past year lauding the management vision of the newspaper of the future, where the reporters are ‘citizen journalists’ and the only full-time journalists are the editor and a small band of experienced sub-editors!
